Work for AWARE
Become an AWARE associate

AWARE uses a team of independent researchers that we call upon as and when the need arises. We mainly use independent researchers for primary research (with most secondary research being carried out by our head-office staff).

If you have interviewing experience in business-to-business areas - preferably if this is related to competitive intelligence, then we would like to hear from you.

We expect AWARE associates to be business-savvy, polite and knowledgeable. Ideally, they will have a good general business understanding, although this is not a prerequisite, and some projects may require technical or specialist industry knowledge.

Our team includes people who have worked as

  • market researchers and managers,
  • competitive intelligence analysts,
  • information and library scientists,
  • journalists.

You have to be a people-person, able to talk confidently, and able to elicit information from contacts without alerting them to the fact that the information may be used by a competitor. At the same time, we expect honesty, as all researchers should be willing to identify who they are, be willing to provide contact details, and comply fully with the ethical codes of the Society of Competitive Intelligence Professional and/or the Association of Independent Information Professionals.

Potential associates need to be self-starters, and self-reliant. Fluency in both written and spoken English is expected, with knowledge of other languages a plus point (although not essential). Associates should also be computer literate, and must be able to work from their own home-based office. Currently, we are only considering people based within the UK.

Typical UK associates include:

We are particularly interested in hearing from people with experience in industrial research, or who have worked in finance, defence, or utility industries as well as those who have worked for FMCG, pharma-chemical and telecoms industries.

If you are interested, please fill in our online application form or alternatively e-mail us, including a copy of your curriculum vitae / resumé. We will then contact you and arrange a telephone interview. This may be followed up with a face-to-face meeting and would be needed prior to certain projects.

All work is project based and may require full-time dedication for a period of a few days to a few months, depending on the nature of the work. Most projects however can be worked on alongside other work, and thus will fit around children at school, while researchers working for a number of different companies will be able to work for both us and their other clients (assuming that there would be no conflict of interest).
